Succulent Red Apple Causes Big Problem Last week Chris Boyle. VHS English and psychology teacher, had a rather odd incident happen to him as he was buying an apple While waiting to purchase the succulent fruit, Boyle mistak- edlv started to eat the apple This posed a rather d ifficult problem when he realized that he had not yet paid for the apple It also turned out to be a worse problem for the cashier, as the price of the apple was based on how much it weighed This unusual incident brings up a question. “ How can a psychology teacher be so forget fu l” '’ The answer is easy. Any teacher that goes through a full day of teaching is bound to be forgetful, and in some cases sort of odd acting An old Christian legend says that on the night Christ was born every tree in the forest blossom ed and bore fru it An evergreen can’t do that, but its fragrance and freshness can last the whole holiday season with new prolong live-cut Christmas tree preserv er This liquid mixes with water and "feeds the tree preventing drying out and dropping needles HELLO THERE! To all of you from all of us . . . MERRY CHRISTMAS WESTWOOD TREE FARM Marvin Meyer Mistakes Highlight Christmas Program The firs t annual Hawaiian Christmas Program in the grade school gym was highlighted by the "little mistakes" that are common to a first-tim e pro duction To start off the evening, the court was supposed to parade to a lighted stage Unfortunately, the first half of the court paraded to a dark stage This situation was soon resolved by turning the lights on in the middle of the procession For the next few minutes, the show ran smoothly Then came a beautiful Hawaiian song that was on tape To the g ir l’s surprise, the tape was played slightly faster than it should have been This was not a large mistake since the tape was easily rewound and started again. Several times during the show, acts were delayed by girls not changing their clothes fast enough The 12 Days of Christ mas was the highlight of the mistakes The girls marched on stage late without their num bered cards While the back- stage crew furiously looked for the missing cards, the girls started singing in the dark The cards were found and distributed to the girls after a b rilliant job of covering up the mistake by the announcer. Even after these mistakes, the program turned out to be a tremendous success Everyone is invited to come back next year Pep Assembly Held For VHS Wrestlers For the first time ever a pep assembly was held for the wrestlers, December 14. CLASS Frosh N ail Knappa Team The Freshman Basketball team collected their first victory of the season, from Knappa, when they beat them by a score of 57 to 33. Ken Roberts, the cross country coach, has takeii on the job of coaching the freshman, and the first game seemed to show some promise for the future In the first quarter D.J Cole, and Vince Baker let! the Logger scorers with four points apiece This quarter showed no evidence of what the final score would be like At the buzzer Vernonia only led by a score of 12 to 11. The second penixl scoring was evenly distributed among the team members, and the score still didn't show any signs of a slaughter, with the half-time score at 22 to 17. Coach Roberts talk during the half time must have really fired up his team, because they came back to score 21 points in the third period to lenghten their lead to 19 points The score was 43 to 24 The Loggers kept their lead throughout the rest of the game, and the gun blew seeing the score of Vernonia 57 and Knappa 33 High scorers for the Diggers were, Vince Baker with 14 points. Gary Ellson 13, and D.J Cole contributed 9 points to the Logger total The team w ill travel to Rainier Thursday, December 13. vvKJKiMKJi a i »/ POLICE a i ir»«.’ nvpA Rl VERNONIA DEPARTMENT X £ $ Dial 429-5141 VEKNONIA CITY HALL 429-5291 COLUMBIA COUNTY SH ER IFF $ OREGON STATE POLICE E m ergency: Vernonia Area 429-5141 — Business: J97 2511 ♦ V V s >T< ♦ 8 u.m . to 3 a.m . .
